Cut & Paste: a found poetry workshop with poet Leah Umansky
Too often, people are afraid of poetry, but did you know writing a poem can actually be fun, like an adventure?
A fun way to craft a poem is to steal from a found source: a magazine or a newspaper. All artists steal; don’t be afraid! During this evening workshop, open to anyone over the age of 18, you will be provided with open-ended writing prompts inspired by the world around you. Together, we will cut out lines and phrases that speak to us from the found text, and then paste these lines on paper to craft your own "found poem!" If you feel inclined, we will also share our poems.
Please bring newspapers and/or magazines you are willing to cut up and possibly share. Some will be made available for you. If you have scissors, glue sticks or tape, feel free to bring them, too and, to share with others.
