Workshop: Writing to De-Stress

For many of us (especially neurodivergent folks and people with post-traumatic stress), basic advice around stress management and self-soothing techniques—or even talk therapy or journaling—don’t help or feel like a good fit. For example, unguided meditation or journaling can be very difficult or even triggering for many.

At this workshop, you will learn about the health benefits of writing and leaning on art and imagination in intentional ways, and we will craft resources tailored to work for your mind/body using tools from EMDR, polyvagal theory, your sense of humor and imagination, neuro-affirming strategies, and creative writing prompts.

Participants will leave with a nervous system map, individualized guided meditations and movement practices, writing prompts, new grounding tools, and, if desired, a local accountability buddy for trying them out at home in the weeks ahead.

Please bring a pen and a face mask! Paper will be provided.

Access: Brooklyn Artery is wheelchair-accessible. The bathroom is not wheelchair-accessible, but Bad Therapy, the bar next door, opens its wheelchair-accessible bathroom to Artery patrons. The bathroom is gender-neutral and single-stall. Masking is encouraged, an air purifier will be on hand, and extra masks will be available. There are chairs and yoga mats available for seating. Stimming welcome. For those who would like to attend virtually, or who find on the day of that they need to switch to virtual attendance, registered participants will receive a Zoom link and an event agenda the day before the event, and slides in the weeks after. Breaks as needed are encouraged!

Facilitated by Rousz DeLuca (they/them), local therapist/writer/educator. Please email Rousz at HealWithRousz@pm.me with any questions.

Registration is $35 a spot. Please register HERE.
